Tharaka Wasalamudaliarachchi
Tharaka Wasalamudaliarachchi also known as Tharu Queen, is a Sri Lankan Author, Journalist, Actress, TV Producer & Songwriter. Born 18th of October 1973, Tharaka Wasalamudaliarachchi is one of the most notable female figures in Sri Lanka. From producing and directing TV Programmes such as Helidarawwa, Charitha, Peravadana to writing bestselling books such as Dehi, Mati, Kalu and more, She is still to this day a popular figure.
She began her professional journey in 1997, joining Swarnavahini as one of its early journalists. During this time, she contributed as a presenter on the political program Deshapalana Sathiya and worked as part of the production team for Rathu Ira. Her breakthrough came in 2000 with the current affairs program Helidarawwa, which brought her widespread recognition. She received the Sumathi Tele Awards for Best Television Current Affairs Program in both 2000 and 2001.
After a brief hiatus from the media industry, Wasalamudaliarachchi returned to television in 2005 with the documentary program Charitha, marking a significant comeback after three years away from the public eye. Her work on Charitha earned her the Sumathi Tele Award for Best Television Documentary in 2007.
In 2006, she made her acting debut with Pipi Piyum, where her performance was well received by audiences. She continued her acting career with a notable role as Ishadi in Udu Viyan (2007). In 2008, she further expanded her presence on television by hosting Peravadana.











































In 2001 she wrote her first novel “Andaramandiya” in 2001 and won the Youth Literature Award that same year. She wrote Dehi, Mati, Kalu, Aes, Paata, Indrachapa, Guru, Kaasi & Neela Nimna, with Kalu being her Most Popular. In 2025 she adopted the name, Tharu Queen and started the popular Podcast Series “A Talk with Tharu Queen”. She also released her debut solo single, Me Dura Bandi Maayima in 2025.
